Position Summary

The Part-Time Web Support Coordinator is a detail-oriented individual who provides part-time technical and project support to the Office of Communications at Drake State. This entry-level position supports the college's digital infrastructure - including its WordPress website, web accessibility compliance program, and publication development activities.

The coordinator will report to the Director of Communications, and/or President and collaborate with staff across academic and administrative departments.

This position is a key contributor to the college's Central Accessible initiative and supports ongoing compliance efforts under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), with particular emphasis on WCAG 2.1/2.2 remediation.

This is a part-time, hourly position working approximately 19 hours per week. A schedule will be established in coordination with the Director of Communications and may include a combination of on-site and remote work. Some flexibility in scheduling may be available based on project needs. The position does not include benefits unless otherwise required by applicable law or collective bargaining agreements

Salary: Appropriate placement on Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees

Hourly Wage: $25 per hour - Part-time - Maximum of (19) hours per week

Campus Hours: 8:00 am - 5:30 pm Monday - Thursday and 8:00 am - 12:00 pm Friday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The part-time Web Support Coordinator shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with policies established by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the J.F. Drake State Community and Technical College Faculty and Staff Handbook.

Web Development and Site Organization

  • Assist with day-to-day web updates across college websites, including content publishing, link maintenance, and structural organization.
  • Actively work to improve the existing Drake State WordPress website.
  • Support migration, consolidation, or archiving web content as directed.
  • Conduct periodic site audits to identify outdated content, broken links, and structural inconsistencies.
  • Coordinate with departmental content owners to gather updated information and ensure timely publication.
  • Assist with the implementation and testing of web components and templates in the college's content management system (CMS).

WCAG Remediation

  • Support ongoing WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level AA remediation activities under the guidance of the Director of Communications and the WCAG Steering Committee.
  • Use accessibility scanning tools (such as Siteimprove or equivalent) to identify and prioritize remediation tasks.
  • Remediate accessibility issues including image alt text, heading structure, color contrast, form labeling, link text, and PDF/document accessibility.
  • Track remediation progress in the college's compliance tracking matrix and flag issues requiring escalation or vendor involvement.
  • Test web content for accessibility using assistive technologies (screen readers, keyboard navigation) as part of the quality assurance process.

Wireframing and Publication Design Support

  • Develop wireframes and structural layouts for the 2027 Drake State Community and Technical College Academic Catalog, in coordination with the Director of Communications and relevant academic stakeholders.
  • Translate content requirements and user experience goals into clear, accessible pages and navigation wireframes.
  • Iterate on wireframe designs based on stakeholder feedback and accessibility review.
  • Support the transition from wireframe to production-ready design by documenting layout specifications and content placement guidelines.

VPAT Discovery Support

  • Assist with Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) discovery activities, including research into vendor accessibility conformance reporting.
  • Compile and organize VPAT documentation from technology vendors used by the college.
  • Support the review of Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) and flag discrepancies or gaps in vendor-reported accessibility for follow-up.
  • Maintain an organized repository of VPAT/ACR documentation in support of the college's procurement and compliance processes.

General and Administrative Support

  • Provide general web and communications support as assigned by the Director of Communications or college leadership.
  • Participate in relevant team meetings, working group sessions, and training as requested.
  • Document processes and maintain internal reference materials related to web operations and accessibility workflows.
  • Support ordering and requisition of communications and recruiting materials as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Communications.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent coursework in web design, digital media, communications, computer science, or a related field; or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with HTML and CSS.
  • Working knowledge of web accessibility principles and WCAG 2.1 guidelines.
  • Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, or similar platforms).
  • Proficiency with standard office and productivity software.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with wireframing tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Balsamiq, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing tools such as Siteimprove, WAVE, Axe, or screen reader software (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver)
  • Experience with PDF remediation for accessibility (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Pro)
  • Knowledge of VPAT/ACR documentation and Section 508 compliance requirements.
  • Prior experience in a higher education or public sector environment
  • Experience with print publication workflows or academic catalog production
