Job Title

The incumbent in this job will perform various customer service duties including responding to inquiries, obtaining information, and providing information on NCHC and its services within legal guidelines and NCHC policy. The primary responsibility is for the intake and registration of patients including insurance verification, fee assessment, and cashiering, presumptive eligibility for Medicaid, referrals, LOA application review and processing, scheduling appointments and data input. The incumbents in this job have routine access to individually identifiable health information including the patients' entire medical records on a need-to-know basis only. All employees of NCHC are responsible to practice good risk management, quality assurance, and deliver excellent internal and external customer service. All employees must understand and exemplify the organization's mission, vision, and core values.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Essential duties/responsibilities include the following as well as other duties that may be assigned:

  • Answers telephones, directs calls and takes messages.
  • Determines nature of patients' visits for appropriate processes.
  • Schedules appointments and maintains appointment calendars for providers.
  • Registers new patients obtaining the required information and documentation.
  • Explains Health Center policy including payment of accounts and determines fee for service based on sliding fee schedule.
  • Disseminates information to patients, staff and others as appropriate.
  • Ensures completion and validation of all patients' forms and documents including regular updates of information.
  • Performs check in, cancellations and rescheduling of patients' appointments.
  • Creates and maintains electronic patient records including the assignment of chart numbers.
  • Collects, documents and disburses revenue from patients including credit.
  • Maintains and reconciles an accurate cash drawer daily.
  • Enrolls patients in Letter of Agreement (LOA) and Presumptive Eligibility for Medicaid for women and children.
  • Directs patients to appropriate services.
  • Immediately alerts nurse manager or designee for triage of any patient who presents in crisis.
  • Distinguishes individuals who may be the victims of bioterrorism or other contamination and responds accordingly.
  • Covers Medical Records and Call Center departments as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Ability to pass the NJ State Presumptive Eligibility and Certified Application Counselor Test.
  • Six months experience in front desk registration and related functions.
  • Bilingual capability in any language predominantly spoken by NCHC patients preferred.
  • Strong Customer Service acumen including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards, and evaluation of customer service.
