Payroll Accountant

Client Overview:
Our client is a long-standing New Jersey higher education organization that is looking to add a Payroll Accountant to their team. The organization is seeking an experienced professional who can work effectively both independently and collaboratively. A strong background in general accounting and full-cycle payroll processing is required.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
$28/hr - $31/hr

Position Overview:
The Payroll Accountant will support payroll and accounting operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting. Applicants must have strong attention to detail and analytical skills. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience with month-end close, accruals, fixed assets, and payroll processing using Oracle.
This role is well suited for a hard-working professional who is comfortable meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities of the Payroll Accountant:

• Process full-cycle payroll and manage multi-state payroll tax activities.
• Handle payroll deductions, adjustments, and weekly payroll reporting.
• Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
• Perform input, maintenance, and review of financial records and expenses.
• Support payroll accounting functions and related reporting activities.

Required Experience/Skills for the Payroll Accountant:

• 3-5 years of payroll and accounting experience.
• Experience with multi-state payroll and payroll tax processing.
• General accounting experience, including journal entries, month-end close, and financial reporting.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Payroll Accountant:

• Comprehensive experience working with ADP.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree.
