Position Summary

We're looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our accounting team in Liberty, MO. This role owns full-cycle payroll for a growing multi-state workforce, including weekly field payroll, certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting, and the daily timekeeping discipline that keeps it accurate.

This is not an entry-level seat. We're looking for someone who has run payroll start to finish on their own, knows construction payroll specifically, and can be trusted with the most confidential information in the company. We've grown from roughly half our current size in about three years and we're still growing, so we need someone who can handle scale and help us build better process as we go.

Key Responsibilities

Full-cycle payroll: Process weekly and multi-state payroll from timecard review through funding and direct deposit, including terminations, vacation, bonus, and manual checks.

Timekeeping: Review timecards daily for missed punches, time-off requests, and schedule alignment. Work directly with foremen and supervisors to resolve discrepancies before they reach a pay period.

Certified payroll and prevailing wage: Prepare and submit certified payroll reports for federal, military, and prevailing wage projects, and maintain compliance with applicable wage determinations.

Job cost coding: Ensure hours are coded accurately to jobs and cost codes so project costing stays clean.

Auditing: Audit every payroll before transmission using reporting tools. Catch variances, overtime anomalies, and coding errors before they go out.

Deductions and garnishments: Set up and maintain garnishments, including tax liens and child support, along with benefit deductions, accruals, and HSA or retirement contributions.

Onboarding and terminations: Process new hires, terminations, status changes, and direct deposit setup in coordination with HR.

Tax and reporting: Support quarterly and year-end payroll tax filings, W-2 processing, and reconciliation of discrepancies.

Process improvement: Document and improve payroll procedures as the company scales.

Collaboration: Work closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, HR, and field leadership, and pitch in on other accounting tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience with primary ownership of the payroll process.

Multi-state payroll experience.

Experience with payroll and timekeeping systems (ADP, Paycom, Paylocity, Kronos, Arcoro, or comparable).

Strong Excel skills - this role is Excel-heavy.

Working knowledge of payroll tax, garnishments, deductions, and accruals.

Proven discretion with confidential information.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.

Preferred

Construction payroll background.

Certified payroll and prevailing wage experience.

Union payroll experience.

Job cost coding experience.

Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).

Experience with Spectrum accounting software - not required if you've worked in a comparable system.

Accounting degree a plus, but not required.

Work Environment

Office-based in Liberty, MO. This is a fully in-office position.

Standard office hours, with heavier volume around weekly payroll processing and quarter-end.
