PCB Designer – CAD Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced PCB Designer to support the design, development, and modification of printed circuit board (PCB) layouts using Cadence Allegro. This position will work closely with electrical engineers, hardware design teams, and other technical professionals to translate circuit designs and engineering requirements into accurate, manufacturable PCB layouts.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on PCB layout experience, strong proficiency with Cadence Allegro, and a solid understanding of electronic design principles, PCB manufacturing requirements, and technical documentation. This role requires excellent attention to detail, independent problem-solving abilities, and effective collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

PCB Design and Layout

• Create, modify, and maintain printed circuit board layouts using Cadence Allegro PCB design software.
• Translate electrical schematics, engineering specifications, and design requirements into detailed PCB layouts.
• Develop and maintain PCB design files, component footprints, and supporting technical documentation.
• Perform component placement and signal routing in accordance with electrical and mechanical design requirements.
• Incorporate engineering changes, design revisions, and product improvements into existing PCB layouts.
• Review PCB designs for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable design specifications.
• Maintain accurate documentation of design revisions, drawing updates, and configuration changes.

Engineering Design and Product Development

• Collaborate with electrical engineers and hardware development teams to understand circuit requirements and design objectives.
• Support PCB development activities from initial design through prototyping, testing, and production release.
• Identify and resolve PCB layout issues, design discrepancies, and potential manufacturing challenges.
• Optimize PCB layouts for manufacturability, assembly, functionality, and reliability.
• Incorporate feedback from engineering reviews, prototype evaluations, and testing activities into updated designs.
• Support the development of PCB fabrication drawings, assembly documentation, and related manufacturing deliverables.

Design Verification and Quality

• Perform design reviews and verify PCB layouts against established engineering requirements.
• Apply appropriate design rules, spacing requirements, and manufacturing constraints.
• Support Design Rule Checks (DRC) and resolution of layout-related issues.
• Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to address design concerns and production feedback.
• Ensure PCB design files and documentation are accurate and properly maintained throughout the development lifecycle.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and other technical teams.
• Communicate PCB layout updates, technical concerns, and engineering changes to project stakeholders.
• Participate in design reviews and collaborate on technical problem-solving.
• Manage multiple design assignments while maintaining quality and meeting project deadlines.
• Recommend improvements to PCB design workflows, documentation practices, and CAD processes.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Previous experience as a PCB Designer, PCB Layout Designer, CAD Designer, or in a related electronic design role.
• Demonstrated experience developing and modifying printed circuit board layouts.
• Experience working with electrical engineering teams on PCB design and development projects.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• Hands-on experience with Cadence Allegro PCB Designer.
• Strong understanding of PCB layout, component placement, and routing practices.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and translate engineering requirements into PCB designs.
• Experience creating and maintaining PCB layout files and supporting technical documentation.
• Understanding of PCB fabrication, assembly processes, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Familiarity with PCB design rules, layout constraints, and design verification processes.
• Experience reviewing and modifying designs to incorporate engineering changes.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical design work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience with multilayer PCB design and layout.
• Familiarity with high-speed digital, analog, or mixed-signal PCB design.
• Knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) considerations.
• Experience with PCB fabrication documentation, assembly drawings, and manufacturing deliverables.
• Familiarity with IPC standards and PCB design best practices.
• Experience supporting PCB prototyping, testing, and production release.
• Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and engineering change management processes.
• Experience working in an electronics manufacturing or hardware product development environment.
