Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking a full-time PCB Integration Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for furthering the PCB and FPC technologies and their adoption inside Garmin.  This role serves as the technical bridge between product design teams and PCB suppliers to ensure PCB technologies are properly integrated, validated, optimized, and manufacturable.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

 

PCB Bring Up and Integration

  • Lead initiatives as they relate to PCBs, FPCs, and miniaturization, and manufacturing improvements
  • Investigate, develop, and implement PCB and FPC technologies between vendors, manufacturing, and design engineering
  • Explore new and existing PCB and FPC technologies to identify integration opportunities in current and future products

Supplier Technical Interface (FAE- like function)

  • Act as primary technical interface between company engineering teams and component vendors
  • Review specifications, schematics, and interface requirements
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve integration issues and optimize performance as well as influence supplier designs to meet product requirements
  • Support vendor selection and technical evaluation

System Design Collaboration

  • Work with electrical, mechanical, and product design teams to ensure robust integration
  • Define component requirements including electrical, mechanical, thermal, and performance characteristics while also supporting schematic and layout reviews

Validation and Production Support

  • Support Design, factory prototype, pilot run, and production ramp phases
  • Assist manufacturing teams in resolving component-related production issues while driving yield improvements and long-term reliability
  • Travel required as needed to support business objectives
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or another related degree AND a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in the architecture, integration, validation and troubleshooting of at least one hardware component technology domain
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hardware interfaces, electrical requirements, communication protocols, control signals, and integration constraints
  • Experience characterizing component performance across operating conditions to ensure technical and business requirements are met
  • Knowledge of power, thermal, and signal integrity considerations and their impact on component and system performance
  • Proven ability to work across electrical, mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, quality, supplier, and program teams
  • Experience providing supplier technical leadership to improve product quality, performance, manufacturability, and innovation
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and influence skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of reliability concepts, failure modes, root cause analysis, and corrective action methodologies
