    Job Description

    Overview:

    Primary Accountability

    The Dentist will provide professional dental health care services to patients including emergency dental services, primary prevention, basic dental services that contain the disease process and rehabilitation dental services in accordance with the American Dental Association (ADA) and CBHA patient care policies to a diverse population of infants, children, and adolescents, specifically those with complex medical conditions, developmental delays, or behavioral challenges. Qualified in treating special needs population and maintains hospital privileges as needed. Participates in quality improvement initiatives as assigned by the Chief Dental Officer.

    Responsibilities:

    Description of Primary Responsibilities

    As a member of the dental team, this position is involved in the following duties:

    1. Perform dental procedures on patients according to ADA standards.
    2. Supervise/manage/train dental department staff, including residents/students assigned by executive leader.

     

    Dental Provider Duties:

    1. Interpretation of radiological images to prepare and execute patient treatment plans.
    2. Provide patient dental education with assistance from interpreters as needed.
    3. Document services on fee slips and in the electronic dental record within 72-hours of patient visit.
    4. Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy regulations.
    5. Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams as needed to ensure positive patient outcomes.

     

    Clinical Duties:

    1. Assist with the training of new dental assistants.
    2. Supervise dental staff in absence of other leadership.
    3. Consult on the purchase of new dental equipment.
    4. Perform composite, GI, and amalgam restorations
    5. Perform fixed prosthetics, including but not limited porcelain crowns, SSC, space maintainers, etc.
    6. Perform simple and surgical dental extractions
    7. Treat patients with moderate to severe dental infection.
    8. Diagnose and manage within the scope of training diseases of the nerve and pulp and gum/bone disease 
    9. Examine, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth and gums for high-acuity patients.
    10. Provide comprehensive dental rehabilitation under general anesthesia within the hospital Operating Room (OR).
    11. Evaluate tooth and jaw development, monitor growth patterns, and plan, deliver, and adjust dental appliances as needed.
    12. Participate in chart audits and quality assurance evaluations.
    13. Other duties as assigned.
    14. Promotes a positive work culture and upholds clinic policies and procedures, including the WE CARE standards of Behavior.
    15. Must uphold confidentiality at all times in regards to CBHA activities, reports, financials, patient health information and other proprietary information specific to CBHA.
    Qualifications:

    3. Keep in good standing with local and state professional affiliations.

     

    Professional and Technical Knowledge:

    Maintain authoritative skill and knowledge in the principles of sound dental practice.

     

    License and Certification:

    1. Licensed to practice dentistry in Washington State.

    2. Must have a DEA license.

    3. Valid Driver’s License

    3. Possesses CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.

    4. Possesses AIDS education or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.

    5. Possesses PALS certification or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.

    6. Completion of a CODA approved pediatric dental residency.

    7. Board certified in Pediatric Dentistry (preferred)

     

    Technical Skills:

    Ability to prepare basic correspondence and simple reports in Microsoft Office Suite.

     

    Communication:

    1. Ability to provide effective communication of information in written (including electronic) correspondence.

    2. Ability to provide effective communication of information during informal and formal verbal presentations.

    3. Ability to effectively communicate complex and/or technical information to co-workers and others.

     

    Blood/Fluid Exposure Risk: According to this position this is a Category I

    1. Category I: Tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids or tissue. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate, is required.

    2. Category II: Usual Tasks do not involve exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissues but may require performing Unplanned Category I tasks.

    3. Category III: Tasks involve no greater exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues than would be encountered by a visit. Category I tasks are not a condition of employment.

     

    Physical Demands:

    1. Ability to ambulate effectively to deliver care to patients.

    2. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

    3. Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).

    4. Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).

    5. Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

    Travel:

    1. Frequent travel to various clinic sites is required.

    2. Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet company insurance liability standards to drive company vehicles.
