The Certified Medical Assistant works as part of a healthcare team under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Practice Administrator and Physician by assisting in planning and implementing care interventions while promoting high quality patient care in a professional, efficient and safe manner.
Job Duties:
Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes and records history and vital signs.
Maintains exam rooms by stocking necessary supplies and materials as determined by practice protocol and physician preferences. Ensures cleanliness. Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
Prepares and administers patient injections, performs blood draws, and processes in-house labs, prepares lab samples to be sent out to Quest or LabCorp.
Collects, labels and processes specimens.
Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment.
Collaborates with different departments to ensure smooth clinical operations are being met and achieved.
Maintains/reviews patient EHR prior to well child examination for vaccine compliance. Records tests and examination results.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, and immunization recommendations, recommends ancillary services that would benefit patients’ overall health and wellness.
Responsible for some administrative functions, such as completing health forms, entering specialist consults, and scanning medical record documents.
Sends patient reminders via text/phone call to complete CHADIS (developmental) questionnaires.
Calling and rescheduling patients on their provider’s schedule that missed their appointment.
Identifying overdue well child examination and scheduling patient for a future check-up while they are in the office.
Verifying current medications at each office visit.
Verifying allergies at each office visit.
Performing preventative testing such as hearing, vision, and ocular screenings. Completing mental health screenings (ie. PHQ-9) as indicated by practice WCE protocol.
Perform other related duties as directed or required.
Weekly schedule:
Monday to Friday
Weekend availability 8am-12pm (Saturday rotation required- this typically occurs every 4-6 weeks)
Education:
High school or equivalent (Preferred)
License/Certification:
BLS Certification (Preferred)
Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)
CPR Certification (Required)
