Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical (Night Shift)

Location: Mattoon, IL (Please do not submit candidates within 50 miles of the facility)

Position Overview:

We are seeking dedicated and experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our Medical-Surgical unit on night shifts. This role offers an excellent opportunity to provide high-quality patient care, lead interdisciplinary teams, and advance your nursing career in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care Management: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team. Recognize normal versus abnormal findings, and respond appropriately.

  • Clinical Leadership: Take a leadership role during each shift by supervising and guiding team members, ensuring continuity of care, safety, and adherence to clinical standards.

  • Care Coordination: Assign beds and care responsibilities during shifts, facilitate smooth handoffs, and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

  • Clinical Knowledge Development: Pursue ongoing education through unit-based training, continuing education, literature review, and professional development activities to enhance clinical skills.

  • Relationship Building: Establish effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to foster a collaborative environment.

  • Care Planning & Evaluation: Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans tailored to individual patient needs. Set measurable goals and assess progress regularly.

  • Outcome Optimization: Identify expected outcomes for patient care, implement appropriate interventions, and evaluate results to ensure quality and safety standards are met.

  • Patient Teaching: Employ effective teaching strategies to promote patient education and health literacy, and foster a safe, healing environment.

  • Documentation & Communication: Accurately document care provided, communicate effectively with team members and physicians, and provide constructive feedback to colleagues and supervisors.

  • Professional Development: Enhance your skills through annual participation in classes on communication, teaching, stress management, conflict resolution, and team building, alongside unit-specific training.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or appropriate state licensure.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in medical-surgical nursing.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work overnight shifts consistently and reliably.
