Job Summary

Vancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is looking for enthusiastic candidates that are skilled in working with all ages and abilities in a fitness environment. As a personal trainer, you will represent the City in a capacity of planning, setting goals and monitoring client's progress. Personal trainers will administer program assessments and equipment orientations under ACSM guidelines and administer a wide variety of exercise programming.

Job Details

Essential Functions:

  • Perform client assessment
  • Evaluate client's physical needs
  • Build individualized exercise programs, modify all levels of intensities and motivate in a positive and friendly manner
  • Track client's fitness and performance goals
  • Provide work out sessions which includes cardio, strength training, flexibility and stretching program design
  • Track client's fitness and performance goals

Qualifications

Experience & Education:

  • At least six months of recent experience working in this field
  • Experience working in a weight room
  • A degree in Kinesiology or Sports Science or nationally recognized certification in personal training and/or a college degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred.

Required Licenses and/or Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid CPR, First Aid, and AED cards within one month of hire
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a National personal training certification (ACE, AFAA, NETA, ACSM, IDEA within six months of hire.

Abilities

  • Able to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to guide and motivate clients
  • Explaining safe and proper use of fitness equipment
  • Respond quickly and effectively in an emergency situation
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with the public, program participant and other city employees
  • Interact well with a diverse group of program participants
  • Read, write and follow instructions
  • Monitor compliance policies and procedures
  • Maintain certification through continuing education classes and workshops
