JOB SUMMARY

Provides quality pharmaceutical care in accordance with applicable state and federal laws. Provides clinical support and distribution services to ensure safe and efficient delivery of medications for all customers. Provides services in retail pharmacy, including but not limited to immunizations, patient consultation, specialty medications, medication therapy management and meds 2 beds, as applicable. Understands the pharmaceutical care needs of a patient population including: neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures; regulatory / accrediting boy requirements; and professional practice standards.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comply with all state, local and federal regulations relating to drug dispensing, including appropriate handling of drug products, adherence to security procedures and completion of necessary documentation. This includes appropriate control and dispensing of controlled dangerous substances.
  • Expedite the processing of prescriptions by performing all duties necessary and allowable by policy or law.
  • Communicate with third party providers to determine eligibility, obtain prior authorization or assist with rejected claims.
  • Answer the telephone and requests at the counter or window.
  • Organize and prioritize work to ensure pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the prescription area in an orderly and sanitary manner.
  • Inspect medication areas for outdated medications, proper storage of medications, proper medication administration records and availability of reference materials.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide courteous, cooperative and timely service to patients, visitors and staff.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, visitor and employee information. Comply with the HIPAA Privacy Rule standards.
  • Assist with maintaining patient medication profiles and records.
  • Operate the point of sale system, including credit card, personal check, cash payments or A/R accounts.
  • Maintain safety-integrity-professionalism of pharmacy at all times.
  • Meet dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Assist in the resolution of issues or concerns while being a supportive team member.
  • Assist with restocking
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all prescription medication received and dispensed.
  • Ensure policies are in place regarding accurate dispensing and labeling of prescriptions and those policies are followed.
  • Ensure that security of the prescription area and its contents are maintained at all times, including the restriction of persons unauthorized by the pharmacist on duty from being present in the prescription area while the pharmacist is temporarily absent but within the premises and the reporting of any thefts and/or diversions of controlled substances are reported upon discovery to the Office of Drug Control and the Drug Enforcement Administration pursuant to Federal and State requirements.
  • Ensuring only pharmacists and interns or externs under immediate personal supervision provide professional consultation with patients and physicians.

Requirements Include

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited college / university of pharmacy, bachelor's degree or PharmD required
  • Pharmacist registered and licensed with Ohio State Board of pharmacy
  • Immunization Certification or willing to become a certified immunizer within 90 days of hire
  • 340B experience preferred
