POSITION SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Clerk is responsible for clerical duties normally encountered in the everyday activities of a pharmacy practice. The Pharmacy Clerk reports to the Pharmacy In Charge.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Greets and assists customers.
- Accepts prescriptions to be filled and ensures the pharmacy staff has the data necessary to fill the orders
- Enters patient prescription information into the computer and processes prescriptions to be filled by the techs and pharmacists
- Help translate and communicate information between patients of all age groups and pharmacist.
- Retrieves and provides the patients with completed orders
- Aids in the receipt and stocking of medication orders from the wholesaler, including price and inventory updates
- Periodically inventory and track expiration dates of medications
- Performs end-of-day cash register procedures including reporting
- Promotes a positive team environment by working cooperatively with other staff, demonstrating flexibility by readily adapting to the day-to-day needs of the pharmacy
- Answers the phones and routes the phone to appropriate staff if unable to assist
- Perform general typing and filing.
- Performs various clerical, bookkeeping, and record keeping functions.
- Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience as a Pharmacy clerk
- Ability to type a minimum of 40 wpm; applicant to provide certificate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of prescription drugs and the dispensing function to check for correctness.
- Knowledge of general pharmacy procedures and practices
- Knowledge of the principles of Pharmacy Law and 340B rules and regulations
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and public.
- Skill in developing strong relationships with patients by anticipating needs and being proactive in offering service
- Ability to learn how to navigate the electronic health record of patients
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform arithmetical computations and use calculator.
- Ability to type 40 wpm.
- Ability to operate a cash register.
- Skill in keeping records for inventory control.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Frequent standing or walking for extended periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 35 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to read and note appropriate measurements. Vision must be correctable to 20/40 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. Requires typing ability of 40 wpm. Requires ability to work in stressful situation or work irregular hours.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office environment within a clinic setting. Involves frequent contact with staff and the public. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with upset people.
