SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The pharmacy intern serves a dual function within Penn State Health (PSH), they will assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with their day to day duties and responsibilities by learning and performing the technical aspects of the pharmacy practice. Additionally, the pharmacy intern will function at the level of staff pharmacists and apply pharmacotherapy knowledge as they continue to develop into a competent practitioner upon graduation and licensure. All duties and responsibilities of the pharmacy intern are performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, according to the State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• Currently enrolled in an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy AND holds/or eligible for a Pennsylvania Pharmacy Intern License and is in good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy

OR

• A student in the first two years of college AND has been accepted into an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy.
• Each intern must register with a pharmacist as their preceptor, according to Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
• Must exhibit good verbal and written communication skills, enthusiasm for the profession of pharmacy, and compassion for patients.
• Must be able to perform functions such as: lifting and transporting of medication totes and medications, telephone communication with all health care providers, computer order/data entry, and preparation of intravenous and extemporaneous compounds.
