Job Functions:
Ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of all medication orders by evaluating drug selection, dose, frequency, safety, dosage form, allergies, drug interactions, and disease state interactions prior to dispensing of medications. Ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of all medication orders prior to dispensing by evaluating patient information including (but not limited to) age, weight, relevant medical characteristics, and laboratory results. Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of assigned patients. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the patient s life span and assess data reflective of the patient s status. Interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and provide the care needed. Ensure proper handoff to management regarding issues that were experienced and handled during the overnight shift.
Supervises pharmacy technicians working under their direction to provide the following and assure the completion of:

"Preparation of first and missing doses
"Triaging the order of the work flow
"Order Entry
"Delivery of STAT medications as necessary
"Short-list preparation and stock replacement
"IV Therapy coordination
"Replacement of CPR car as needed to nursing unit
"Nursing unit inspections, checking for expired medications, refrigerator checks, hood cleaning, and other responsibilities as defined.
"Replacement of PRN s and floor stock
"Cassette delivery
"Maintaining the general cleanliness of the area
"Other activities related to medication dispensing
"Ensure overnight technicians are returning medications to carousel
"Ensure procedure area Omnicell restock is delivered
"Escalate overnight issues to PDOC if necessary
"Alert management of staff call-outs that occurred during overnight shift

Qualifications:
"Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy
"Doctor of Pharmacy or another advanced degree preferred.
"Registered pharmacists in the state of Illinois or eligible for same.
"Two years hospital pharmacy experience in an organized health care setting preferred.
"Exceptional aptitude or knowledge may be considered in lieu of experience.

License or Certifications:
"Registered pharmacists in the state of Illinois or eligible for same.
"Completion of an ASHP accredited residency highly preferred.
