Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician supports the safe, accurate, and efficient distribution of medications within the Inpatient Pharmacy. This role works closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure exceptional patient care while upholding our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Maintain a professional image and deliver excellent customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers in alignment with our Service Excellence Standards.
- Demonstrate the Values of Caring, the Person, Quality, and Integrity in all interactions.
- Maintain and troubleshoot pharmacy printers, copiers, and fax machines (paper/ink replacement, basic resets, etc.).
- Understand and utilize the Patient Medication Profile to assist with medication-related problem resolution.
- Navigate pharmacy software to help resolve medication issues and ensure accurate medication charging and crediting, including correct date-of-service entry.
- Assist pharmacists with the daily operation of the inpatient drug distribution system.
- Deliver medications and ensure secure handling, including refilling Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) with correct expiration dates.
- Work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness within the pharmacy work environment.
- Identify medications on the high‑risk audit list and refer them to a pharmacist per protocol.
- Use pharmacy technology to compound, prepack, and barcode medications for patient dispensing.
- Accurately and securely pull and refill controlled substances.
- Prepare sterile IV admixtures using proper sterile technique and in accordance with current USP guidelines, including hazardous drug preparation after appropriate training.
Requirements
Licensure/Certification:
- South Carolina Pharmacy Technician Certification or Registration required.

The Inpatient Pharmacy provides 24‑hour pharmacy services to support medication needs for all hospitalized patients. Our team plays a critical role in ensuring safe medication practices and supporting high‑quality patient care across the hospital.
