Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Pharmacy Technician to support clinical pharmacy programs, with a primary focus on Electronic Prior Authorizations (ePA). The Pharmacy Technician will assist with processing prior authorization requests by reviewing patient charts, completing authorization questions, gathering required documentation, and communicating with providers, patients, pharmacies, and insurance payers.
The ideal candidate will have strong reading comprehension, written communication, critical-thinking skills, and the ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple systems in a fast-paced remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Complete electronic prior authorization questions within EMR systems and external payer websites.
Review patient charts to identify information and documentation needed to support prior authorization requests.
Contact providers and patients to obtain missing information or supporting documentation.
Submit prior authorization cases and required information to insurance payers.
Follow up with payers regarding pending prior authorization cases.
Communicate with pharmacies regarding medication and authorization coordination.
Monitor and respond to team inboxes and incoming phone calls.
Accurately document all communications and case activity within applicable systems.
Manage multiple cases and priorities while meeting established turnaround times.
Provide professional and timely service to providers and patients.
Follow established clinical pharmacy processes, privacy requirements, and departmental procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
6+ months of experience in pharmacy, healthcare, call center, or customer service.
Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent reading comprehension and attention to detail.
Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
Accurate data-entry skills.
Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous prior authorization/ePA experience.
Experience reviewing medical records or patient charts.
Experience communicating with healthcare providers, pharmacies, or insurance payers.
Auditing experience.
Bilingual skills, particularly English/Spanish.
Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
