Summary of Job Duties:
The Pharmacy Technician IV will supervise, direct, coordinate and provide first line administrative and technical functions for our technicians, volunteers, students, and other personnel as directed. This position is an upper-level technician position in the Department of Pharmacy. The employee in this position must demonstrate special skills and knowledge not required by the other pharmacy technicians. The technician in this position will assist department leadership to support the goals and vision of the service line. The pharmacy technician IV works in partnership with the pharmacist manager to develop and streamline pharmacy improvement initiative, including project aimed at meeting departmental goals. The individual participates as an essential member of the pharmacy leadership team to address and resolve broad management/administrative issues such as planning for future programs and services, patient and staff safety, regulatory compliance, and operational monitoring. Pharmacy Technician IVs may work online based on department need to help with day-to-day dispensing functions, tasks and job duties to provide timely and efficient patient services. They will help with maintaining, changing, and implementing new workflows, technology/automation, and process improvement projects. They provide leadership and assistance for developing appropriate training, education, and competencies for employees and rotation students. This position will promote staff engagement and great customer service. They will also represent the department by serving on committees and attending meetings as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
HS/GED plus 4 yrs Pharmacy Tech Experience (i.e. retail, hospital, etc.) or Bachelors Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences;
Competent in all areas and technician roles
1 year to obtain ASHP/ACPE accredited technician training or certificate program;
National Technician Certification (PTCB);
Pharmacy Technician License by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Degree
Good/Strong Math Skills
2+ years of UAMS pharmacy experience
Additional Information:
Responsiblities:
Ordering, stocking, and managing inventory for UAMS Health hospitals and clinics
Orient new hires on job requirements, policies, and work procedures
Counsel employees on unsatisfactory performance and work behaviors
Administer formal disciplinary actions, up to and including termination
Help implement changes to the medication specialized computer systems within the Department of Pharmacy
Assist with technology upgrades including testing and training
Communicate with other departments, healthcare professionals, and services in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Assist with managing accreditation body activities including Joint Commission, State Board, etc.
Communicate information effectively on updates to the pharmacy policies and procedures
Assist Pharmacy Manager(s) with special projects
Cover shifts when needed
Ensure proper training for technicians
Assist with student training and programs
Assist P&T committee with the add and removal of formulary and non-formulary drugs
Monitor temperature, humidity, and pressure logs
Expedites delivery of all STAT/NOW orders
Delivers medication carts accurately and promptly
Rotates medications appropriately
Delivers Pyxis accurately and promptly
Restock assigned areas daily
Maintain Pyxis Stock Out on units
Maintains security of controlled substances
Monitor the Removal of expired drugs from assigned areas monthly
Inspection and maintenance of drug storage area
May perform other duties as assigned.
