Job Summary

Salary Range: $20.25 -$31.09. Pay is based on experience.

Essential Functions

Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection for laboratory testing, transfusions, donations, and research.

Explain blood collection procedures to patients and provide support during recovery from adverse reactions.

Collect blood specimens using a variety of venipuncture techniques, including vacuum tubes, syringes, and butterfly needles.

Collect capillary blood specimens through dermal puncture methods, including heel sticks and finger sticks.

Properly dispose of contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and organizational policies.

Safely dispose of blood, biohazardous fluids, and tissue in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and organizational policies.

Accurately enter patient, specimen, insurance, and billing information into computer systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of various techniques in collecting specimens.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA Regularities and an ability to maintain absolute discretion over highly sensitive patient information.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens.
  • Superior customer service skills, clear communications skills, and ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy.
  • Knowledge and practice of proper aseptic techniques necessary to prevent injury to self and patients.
