Position Overview
The Phlebotomist III – Float serves as the face of the organization for patients seeking routine care or critical diagnostic insights. This role is responsible for performing high-quality venipuncture, specimen processing, and float coverage across multiple locations, while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, safety, confidentiality, and customer service.
This position requires advanced phlebotomy expertise, leadership capability, and the flexibility to support Patient Service Centers, mobile services, long-term care facilities, and in-office phlebotomy environments as business needs dictate.
Duties & Responsibilities
Draw quality blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures
Create an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures clearly to patients
Provide float coverage across multiple locations and roles, ensuring daily operations are completed accurately and on time
Support Patient Service Center, Mobile, Long-Term Care, and In-Office Phlebotomy operations
Demonstrate leadership behaviors with a focus on process excellence and patient confidentiality
Step in to lead on-site PSR staff as needed
Act as a coach, mentor, and instructor for new employees and assist with onboarding new clients
Serve as point of contact for on-site staff and provide feedback to supervisors or group leads
Support high-complexity and high-volume practices requiring advanced phlebotomy skills
Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Laboratory Services, IT, Billing, and Logistics teams
Manage multiple priorities effectively in a high-volume environment
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred
Phlebotomy certification preferred (required in CA, NV, and WA only)
Required Experience
5 years of phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections
Minimum 3 years in a PSC/IOP environment preferred
Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred
Keyboard and data entry experience
Required Skills
Advanced venipuncture and specimen handling skills
Strong customer service and communication abilities
Ability to lead, mentor, and support team members
Excellent attention to accuracy, safety, and confidentiality
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
Professional judgment and problem-solving skills
Additional Requirements
Reliable transportation and flexibility to cover multiple sites
Ability to work assigned schedules including alternate Saturdays
