Physical Design Engineer, AI Hardware

The Tesla AI Hardware team is at the forefront of revolutionizing artificial intelligence through cutting-edge hardware innovation. A key part of this effort is Dojo, Tesla's custom supercomputer system built to efficiently train massive neural networks on vast video data from the fleet. The work of Tesla's AI Hardware team powers the neural networks behind Full Self-Driving (FSD), and Tesla humanoid robot, Optimus, pushing the boundaries of computational efficiency and performance. By creating custom silicon and optimized architectures, the team ensures Tesla remains a leader in AI-driven automotive and energy solutions, shaping a future where intelligent machines enhance human life.

The AI Hardware team is looking for a Physical Design Engineer to work in Palo Alto, CA. This Engineer will be responsible for implementation of SOC and related IP from synthesis through tapeout.

• Drive power-optimized implementation of high-speed blocks through synthesis and place/route
• Write timing constraints, generate floor plans, and implement CTS or semi-custom clocking
• Work closely with RTL team to drive Power/Performance/Area optimizations
• Sign off analysis including EM/IR, static timing, LEC, and LVS/DRC
• Degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
• Strong understanding of static timing
• Expertise using latest EDA design tools
• Experience on recent technology node
• Strong scripting skills (Tcl expected, Perl or Python desired)
