Summary:
Wound Care Physical Therapist provides care and management for patients with impairments of integumentary system and associated conditions. These include but are not limited to acute, chronic, traumatic, pressure, surgical, diabetic, venous/arterial wounds, and burns.

Previous Experience:
a. Required: Minimum of two years clinical practice as a licensed Physical Therapist..
b. Required 1 year previous clinical experience providing wound care.
c. Preferred: previous experience with EMR documentation.
Specialized or Technical Education:
a. Current Louisiana license as a Physical Therapist.
b. Wound care certification from accredited program preferred.
Manual or Physical Skill Required:
a. Body mechanics.
b. Working knowledge of proper equipment used for patient care treatments.

Hazards: May sustain muscle strains from lifting or stooping, may slip and fall on a wet floor, may sustain injury from a chemical accident associated with cleaning agents, or contamination from an infectious patient.

Has high level of contact with patients, families, Physicians, Nursing Homes, Home Health agencies, community organizations, equipment companies, and insurance companies.
Has high level of contact with hospital departments to address patient and department needs.
E. Responsibilities:
Responsibility for the safety of others: Must be alert to recognize hazardous situations and take corrective action or report the hazard to the appropriate authority per hospital policy.
Responsibility for Company Funds or Property: Must keep accurate records of treatments rendered for patient billings. Must monitor equipment removed from the department for treatment in the patient rooms.
Responsibility for Confidential Information: High due to access to patient medical information. All patient information is confidential. Patient information shall be given only to personnel directly involved in the patient's care.
Responsibility for Performance of Work without immediate supervisor: High - Does not require immediate supervision. Must be capable of assuming responsibilities and acting independently within the scope of authority.
Responsibility for the Supervision of Others: High-responsible for the supervision of support personnel in the department
Responsibilities:
Coordinates process for identification of patients requiring referral for Wound Care Center services.
Administration of wound care modalities such as assessment, diagnostic procedures, dressing application, debridement, patient education, infection control, coordination of specialty therapies and diagnostics, nutritional support, as well patient DME and follow up services.
Functions as a consultant and resource for patients, caregivers, and professional staff in the management of patients.
Establishes and maintains strong business relationships within the hospital and medical community to promote growth of services.
Assists manager in the development and implementation of patient education protocols for use by staff according to assessed needs.
Participates in staff orientation and development through structured in-service programs, as well as presentations for staff.
Maintains accurate records and documentation as needed to meet medical necessity.
Assists as needed with completion and submission of required patient insurance and employment documentation forms and other administrative needs of the Wound Care Center.
Participates in product and equipment evaluation and quality assurance management.
Collaborating with all team members to update and manage patient plans of care as well as all needs of the Wound Care Center.
Can demonstrate competency in age specific criteria as applicable to job scope.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Wound Care Center Medical Director/Manager or designee.
Follows North Oaks Health System's Compliance Programs and all Federal and State regulatory guidelines.
