Summary

Provides direct patient care in Physical Therapy services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. Examines patient's medical history, evaluates their physical abilities, determines their potential to respond to therapy and develops treatment plans. Supervision of the Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) and technician in delivery of Physical Therapy services. Educates patients and families in appropriate physical therapy methods.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate of a bachelor's level (or higher) program in Physical Therapy from an APTA accredited program.
  • Physical Therapy licensure in the State of Nevada or current interim permit.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with adult/geriatric/general population.
  • Ortho and Stroke experience.

Essential Functions

  • Performs basic assessment of the patient, identifying and utilizing the proper assessment tool, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Ability to assess vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more specific investigation as needed.
  • Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the therapy plan of care.
  • Uses assessment information to develop a plan of care that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient.
  • Ensures the plan of care is understood by Physical Therapist Assistants and Rehabilitation Technicians as appropriate.
  • Uses plan of cares as a basis for providing safe and therapeutic care to patients.
  • Consistently follows established standards, policies and procedures in providing physical therapy as outlined by Nevada State Practice Act for Physical Therapist.
  • Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of non-professional personnel.
  • Performs competently those technical skills considered basic to the practice of Physical Therapy.
  • Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and his or her family.
  • Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates these in plan of care.
  • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
  • Supports Nevada State Practice Act through adherence to existing policies and procedures.
  • Supervises care given by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed required by the Physical Therapy State Practice Act.
  • Maintains professional competence, as required by the Nevada State Physical Therapy Board, through formal continuing education, workshops and unit specific education. Maintains currency of educational file. Completes unit mandatory education.
  • Assists in teaching individual patients and patients in groups in established programs.
  • Seeks guidance when encountering physical therapy procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
