Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner

Gillette Childrens is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider to join the Orthopedic department team to provide both inpatient and outpatient care.

Purpose of position

The advanced practice provider (APRN, CNP or PA-C) provides clinical care to patients in a family-centered model with complex acute, critical and chronic health care conditions, advises patients on health maintenance and disease prevention, and/or provides skilled assistance in navigation of the health care system as appropriate to the developmental, cultural, emotional, and medical, surgical, or rehabilitative needs of the patient and their families.

The APP role in Orthopedics - Inpatient/Outpatient Services encompasses the following components:

• Independent and collaborative management of a range of orthopedic concerns with a focus on orthopedic trauma, peri-operative and inpatient management of patients undergoing orthopedic procedures on extremities
• Inpatient and outpatient role.
• Management of inpatient consults, post-operative, and discharge planning needs including ongoing assessment and adjustment to plans in collaboration with Orthopedic team members; collaborative care of inpatients includes examinations and chart review, appropriate ordering and monitoring of diagnostic services (including labs, imaging, specialized studies), ancillary services (including social work, child life, rehab therapies), treatments (including medication reconciliation, immobilization, orthotics, wound vacs, drains, casting, pain management strategies, consultations) and patient and family education
• Work collaboratively with nursing, allied health staff, medical staff, residents, and APPs from various departments
• Between visit care coordination and management of acute questions and concerns
• Outpatient practice may include evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with acute orthopedic conditions including fractures, sprains and musculoskeletal injuries as well as other orthopedic conditions and post operative care in an outpatient clinic setting. This may include fracture and dislocation assessment, review of radiographs, suture and staple removal, and application or removal of casts, splints, braces, and other immobilization devices.

The Advanced Practice Provider delivers comprehensive patient care which maximizes outcomes in a manner consistent with the organization's mission, models of care and in accordance with professional practice standards. In collaboration with the physician(s), advanced practice practitioners and managers, the advanced practice provider assesses, plans, and implements the evaluation and follow-up of patient care. The advanced practice provider incorporates direct patient care, consultation, research, education and leadership into their work.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this opportunity is $113,880 to $170,830, with a median salary of $142,355. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience and internal equity. Salary is just one component of the compensation package for employees. • Autonomous Practice - Exercises independent judgment that influences care and demonstrates understanding of potential clinical implications.

• Supervises, delegates, collaborates and provides care based on the credentialing and privileging agreement upon employment with Gillette.

• Identifies and incorporates evidence based improvements into own daily work.

• Procedures and Policies - Identifies, interprets, and implements organizational policies and procedures according to regulations, professional and community standards.

• Protects the confidentiality of personal health information.

• Active Engagement - Actively represents the department in committees, task forces, unit activities or other work groups and disseminates information and decisions to colleagues and peers using the Engaged Professional Practice Model.

• Ensures accountability through the use of dashboards and promotes transparency through reporting of near misses and medical errors.

• Attends staff meetings to the standard established for the department.

• Demonstrates meaningful contributions to the productivity of the professional environment of the department.

• Supports work of Nursing Collaborative Governance initiatives.

• Participates in activities that promote professional growth and quality improvement.

Qualifications

Required

• Professional advanced practice provider licensure as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant:

• Nurse Practitioner:

• Current RN license and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license through the Minnesota Board of Nursing

• Completion of a (pediatric, family or adult) nurse practitioner program with a Master of Nursing Degree or a Doctorate of Nursing Practice

• Current national certification from one of the following:

• American Academy of Nurse Practitioners

• American Nurses Credentialing Center

• Pediatric Nursing Certification Board

• Physician Assistant:

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program and certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

• Licensure as a PA in Minnesota; certification and prescriptive authority

• Current CPR- BLS for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association

Preferred

• Current PALS, PEARS and/or ACLS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated interpersonal communication, organizational and leadership skills. Ability to function autonomously as a provider.
