Position Summary

White Plains Hospital is a rapidly growing healthcare organization dedicated to expanding access to exceptional, patient-centered care throughout our community. As our nationally recognized Orthopedic Program continues to grow, we are seeking a motivated Physician Assistant to join our collaborative, multidisciplinary team of Orthopedic Surgeons, Physician Assistants, Medical Assistants, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) specialists.       

This position offers a unique opportunity to practice in a dynamic orthopedic setting with responsibilities spanning both the outpatient clinic and the operating room. The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive orthopedic care, including patient evaluations, treatment planning, fracture and musculoskeletal injury management, preoperative and postoperative care, interpretation of diagnostic studies, patient education, and coordination of care across the continuum. In the operating room, the PA will serve as a first assist on a wide variety of orthopedic procedures while working closely with experienced orthopedic surgeons.                                                                                                                                      

One of the distinguishing features of this role is the high level of autonomy and professional development it offers. Physician Assistants are supported through APP-directed education, strong mentorship, and a collaborative practice environment that fosters close working relationships with orthopedic surgeons. As experience and competency grow, PAs can develop and manage their own panel of patients with appropriate physician supervision and support.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

• Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.  
• Surgical 1st assist (including wound closure, post operative orders, etc) Performing initial and follow up evaluation, autonomously or in conjunction with supervising physician.  
• Perform/Assist in office orthopedic procedures such as: ultrasound guided injections/aspiration, fracture reduction, casting, splinting, joint aspiration/injections.  
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing (X-rays, MRI, CT scans, etc.) 
• Documentation of office encounters.  
• Prescribing medication and management of refill requests.  
• Ordering and monitoring of therapeutic treatments (physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc.)  
• Triaging, responding and documentation of patient phone calls and request. Educating patients and family members on diagnosis and treatment options.
• Work in collaboration with supervising physician and healthcare professionals to deliver high quality patient care.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned. 

Education & Experience Requirements

Physician Assistant:

• Current New York State Licensed Physician Assistant
• Current National Certification
• Current White Plains Hospital Physician Assistant Delineation of Privileges
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Proficiency in all procedures, techniques and skills approved in the delineation of privileges
• At least 5 years of Orthopedics or related experience as a PA.

• May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
