    Physician Assistant
    Reports to: Director of Nursing, Administrator and Medical Director                      
    Status:     Non-Exempt
    Pay Range: $110.00 per hour depending on experience. 
     
     
    Job Description:
    As an Orthopedic Physician Assistant, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care. This position involves working closely with our orthopedic surgeons in clinical consultations, pre- and post-operative care, and assisting in surgical procedures while ensuring optimal patient outcomes. The PA will also be responsible for patient education, treatment planning, and maintaining patient documentation.  This is a 40-hour position, flexible shifts required.
     
     
    Position Requirements:
    • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) PANCE eligible and eligible for PA licensure in the State of Massachusetts.
    • Documentation of Massachusetts PA license and initial NCCPA certification are required upon hire.
    • Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required.
    • Master’s degree in physician assistant studies or a related field.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
    • Two years of experience as an orthopedic physician assistant preferred.
    • Experience working in the Operating Room with Orthopedic Surgeons.
     
    Essential Position Responsibilities:
    Job Knowledge
    1. Provides direct care, counseling and teaching in an ambulatory surgery setting.
    2. Prevised pre-operative services, including pre-op History and Physicals and review of laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
    3. Presents and discusses the findings of the initial evaluation with the Anesthesia Director and Surgeon.
    4. May assist in surgery.
    5. Anticipates the need of the surgeon in order to expedite the surgical procedure.
    6. Provides advanced surgical scrub services in primary service.
    7. Ensures treatment and consultations consistent with NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance), AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), and federal and state regulatory standards.
    8. Assist with research projects and their implementation as needed
    9. Ensures professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops and maintaining knowledge of industry standards and practices.
    10. Maintains patients’ confidentiality.
    11. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings.
    12. Conforms to surgery center standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
    13. Follows established infection control and safety procedures.
    14. Performs other duties pertaining to patient care and practice operations as required.

    • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to make accurate diagnoses based on symptoms and test results.
    • Ability to move and reposition patients.
    • Familiarity with current standards of care, patient privacy regulations and infection control practices.
    • Clinical skills, including the ability to perform a physical exam.
     
    Attendance
    1. Follows established surgery center policies and procedures regarding attendance and tardiness.
    2. Provides notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness in accordance with established departmental procedures.
    MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:  Clinical equipment used for patient care, i.e., EKG Monitor, Cautery Unit, Defibrillator,(Camera system, TV monitor, Light Source, Sony Printer, VCR,  Light Source), Pain Pump Systems, Microscopes,  Tourniquets (Portable), Portable Gas and O2 Tank, Suction, Headlights and Loops, OR beds, , D&E Machines, Ultrasonic Cleaner, Blanket Warmer, and Autoclaves, OEC, RF equipment, computer, copy machine, telephone, public address system, fax machine.
    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:  Indoors in climate controlled environment.  Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood and body fluids which may carry infection, to infectious disease, and to chemical and electrical hazards.  Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Good visual acuity, accurate color vision.  Ability to lift/transfer patients in excess of 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement.  Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl.  Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape.  Ability to speak and hear.
    DEGREE OF SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO POSITION:  Minimal, must be self-directed and able to work independently.
