Optometrist (OD)
As an Optometrist (Doctor of Optometry, OD), youll provide primary eye care services to patients of all ages. This includes diagnosing and treating visual conditions, detecting eye diseases, and managing systemic conditions that affect the eyes. You will work in a multi-specialty setting with access to advanced diagnostic technology and the support of trained ophthalmic technicians.
What Youll Do
- Conduct comprehensive eye exams to assess vision and detect eye health concerns.
- Diagnose and manage conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, presbyopia, glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal diseases.
- Identify systemic conditions (e.g., hypertension, diabetes) that affect eye health.
- Prescribe glasses, contact lenses, and other corrective devices.
- Provide treatments such as low-vision rehabilitation and minor surgical procedures (e.g., removal of foreign bodies).
- Develop treatment plans, prescribe or administer medications, and monitor patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated care.
What Youll Need
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree.
- Current state license to practice optometry or eligibility to obtain one.
- Experience or residency training preferred but not required.
- Strong clinical judgment, patient care skills, and professional communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
