Portuguese Immersion Daycare Teacher

Sorrisinho is a new Portuguese immersion daycare opening in Silver Spring, MD, serving infants through preschoolers. We're looking for caring, reliable teachers to help create a safe, warm classroom where children learn and build relationships through Portuguese. As a new center with a small team, teachers will help establish daily routines and shape the program as it grows.

Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, developmentally appropriate care for children from infancy through preschool
• Use Portuguese as the primary language for classroom instruction and daily interactions
• Plan and lead age-appropriate activities that support children's language, social, emotional, and physical development
• Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom
• Follow center procedures and Maryland Office of Child Care (OCC) requirements, including supervision and staff-to-child ratios
• Communicate respectfully with families about children's daily experiences, needs, and progress
• Work collaboratively with the Center Director and teaching team
• Help maintain classroom materials, routines, and required records

Requirements

• Fluent in spoken Portuguese
• Meets applicable Maryland OCC staff qualification requirements for the assigned role and age group
• Experience caring for or teaching young children; early childhood classroom experience is a plus
• Patient, dependable, and attentive to children's safety and individual needs
• Comfortable working as part of a small team in a new center
• Able to communicate effectively with families and colleagues

Nice to have

• Experience with infants or toddlers
• Familiarity with Portuguese-speaking cultures and traditions
• Experience supporting children with diverse learning or developmental needs
