This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.

POSITION SPECIFICS

The DII Lab at Penn State (College of Engineering) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital twins, engineering informatics, and intelligent construction.

Potential research topics include:

• AI agents and large language models for engineering applications

• Knowledge graphs and graph-based reasoning

• BIM / IFC and digital twins

• Engineering requirement formalization and traceability

• Construction planning, scheduling, and constraint reasoning

• Automated verification and engineering decision support

• Dependency and impact analysis

• Integration of design, manufacturing, construction, and verification information

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, or a closely related field, completed by the start date

• Strong research and programming background

• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research

• Strong scholarly publication record

• Strong written and oral communication skills

Experience in one or more of the following is particularly desirable:

• AI/ML

• LLMs/AI Agents

• Knowledge Graphs

• BIM/IFC

• Digital Twins

• Graph Neural Networks

• Construction Informatics

• Semantic Modeling

• Engineering Data Integration

Start Date: As soon as possible

Location: Penn State University Park, Pennsylvania

Appointment: Full-time Postdoctoral Scholar
