We welcome applications from individuals with a strong research background and a passion for advancing immunology research.\n \nLearn more about Dr. Tang's research program:\n \nhttps://liu.edu/research/research-faculty-and-administration/xiaolei-tang\n \nThe incumbent will investigate the role of regulatory T cells in treating autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, and inflammatory bowel disease, using animal models and human samples. He/she will not only conduct basic research but also gain industry experience. The fellow will primarily work in the Lewyt College of Veterinary Medicine of Long Island University, a newly established veterinary medical school. \n \nOur newly renovated research laboratory is fully equipped with state-of-the-art instruments essential for daily research activities, including a Cell Culture Biosafety Cabinet, CO2 Incubator, Flow Cytometer, ImmunoSpot Analyzer, Freeze Lyophilizer, Nanoparticle Analyzer, Confocal Microscope, and Gas Chromatography. Some publications are accessible through this link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/1J5cF1V0tC4ky/bibliography/public/ \n \nKey Responsibilities\n \nCell Culture\n\n Maintain cell culture for primary cells and cell lines. \n Perform assays to evaluate cell functions such as proliferation, cytokine secretion, apoptosis, and differentiation. \n \nFlow Cytometer\n\n Perform various analyses using flow cytometers, such as cell subset and cycle analyses.\n \nMolecular Biology \n\n Isolate DNA and RNA. \n Perform agarose gel electrophoresis, Cloning, PCR, real-time RT-qPCR, ChIP, ChIPSeq. \n Knockdown genes. \n Overexpress genes. \n \nBiochemistry \n\n Isolate and quantify proteins. \n Perform SDS-PAGE, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, in vitro and in vivo biochemical assays. \n \nImmunohistochemistry \n\n Prepare paraffin-embedded and cryosections. \n Perform histology, H&E staining, and immunohistochemistry staining. \n \nMicroscopy \n\n Analyze images using bright field, fluorescence, and confocal microscopes. \n \nSpectroscopy \n\n Use UV-Vis spectroscopy and spectrophotometry to quantify DNA, RNA, and protein.\n \nBioinformatics \n\n Design primers. \n Perform sequence alignment. \n Bulk RNA-seq and scRNA-seq. \n Analyze gene sequencing data using machine-learning techniques. \n \nSmall Animal Handling \n\n Breed and maintain mouse colonies. \n Genotype for knockout and transgenic mouse models. \n Perform animal procedures such as isolation of intestinal crypts, intravenous/intraperitoneal/subcutaneous injections, necropsy and tissue collection, and immunohistochemistry of tissue sections. \n Perform luciferase imaging of live animals. \n \nMentoring \n\n Mentor undergraduate, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Master's, and PhD students. \n \nPublishing \n\n Gather and interpret experimental data and prepare reports and manuscripts. \n Perform other duties as assigned. \n \nMinimum Qualifications\n\n Ph.D. in natural science or a health-related field from a college or university of recognized standing.
