Position Summary

The Operations & Maintenance Technician Trainee supports the daily operation of the facility under supervision, learning the skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain power generation equipment efficiently, safely, and in compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements. This role is designed for candidates interested in developing a career as a fully qualified Operation/Maintenance Technician.

This position is represented by IBEW Local 10. Starting Hourly rate is $30.00 /hr.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified operators in monitoring, controlling, and recording plant operating conditions.
  • Learn to operate boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Support natural gas pipeline, chemical usage, water treatment, and emissions control processes.
  • Conduct rounds and inspections of plant systems, reporting abnormalities to senior operators.
  • Participate in startup, shutdown, and emergency operations under the supervision of qualified personnel.
  • Learn to use the plant's Distributed Control System (DCS) and other monitoring technologies.
  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks, including lubrication, cleaning, and equipment checks.
  • Understand and follow all safety protocols, environmental compliance requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Complete assigned training modules required for qualification as a Power Plant Operators/Maintenance Technician.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical training in power engineering, mechanical systems, or electrical systems preferred.
  • Possess a valid New York State Driver's License.
  • Must successfully pass a DOT drug test and pre-employment physical.
  • Position is subject to ongoing DOT random drug testing.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to learn plant processes.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity, thermodynamics, or industrial equipment a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Computer literacy with ability to learn plant monitoring systems.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to call-outs.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and perform manual tasks in an industrial setting for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work at extreme temperatures (heat, cold, noisy, outdoor, high voltage, Toxic or caustic chemical environments).
  • Willingness to work at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate training and PPE.
