The Practicum Coordinator of the Master of Social Work (MSW) Practicum Education Department at Tulane School of Social Work (TSSW) is a key position responsible for the placement and ongoing oversight of placement of students for the practicum component of the Master of Social Work degree. The Practicum Coordinator will work with others in the Practicum Education Department and report to the Assistant Director of Practicum Education. The Practicum Coordinator is responsible for matching students with appropriate practicum sites and for assisting with the implementation of systems and processes to best direct the overall practicum learning experience. The Practicum Coordinator's role is in part guided and defined by the policies and regulations of the Tulane School of Social Work's accrediting body, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) in the state of Louisiana
  • Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited University

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Louisiana
  • Experience in higher education, program development and administration, and program evaluation
  • One or more years of experience as a Field Instructor - as defined by CSWE
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement with matters of significance;
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA);
  • Goal-oriented, proactive, able to take initiative, and work strategically and independently;
  • Exceptionally strong people and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in an academic environment with faculty, staff, students, course instructors, and other constituents;
  • Ability to present a poised, professional role model for students and demonstrate nonjudgmental problem-solving in dealing with the complexities of practicum placements and ongoing student development;
  • Ability to maintain clear, professional boundaries with students and other stakeholders;
  • Ability to communicate, educate, and work effectively with a diverse community.
  • Comfortable with public speaking.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:

Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
