Position Summary
The Pre-First Teacher provides an additional year of academic and developmental support for students who would benefit from more time between Kindergarten and First Grade. - Develop individualized goals and instructional strategies for students based on their specific needs.
- Provide targeted instruction, reinforcement, practice, and enrichment in reading, writing, mathematics, and other academic areas as appropriate.
- Strengthen foundational literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written expression.
- Strengthen foundational mathematics skills, including number sense, computation, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning.
- Continuously monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on student performance and growth.
- Provide additional challenge for students who are ready to move beyond grade-level expectations while providing appropriate support for students who need additional instruction and practice.
- Develop students independence, organization, work habits, perseverance, and confidence as learners.
- Support students in developing the social and emotional skills necessary for success in First Grade.
- Establish clear expectations, routines, and procedures that promote a positive, supportive, and productive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with Kindergarten and First Grade teachers to understand expectations and ensure students are developing the skills necessary for a successful transition to First Grade.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, areas of strength, areas for growth, and strategies for continued development.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and document instructional interventions and student growth.
- Participate in grade-level, Lower School, and faculty meetings and contribute to discussions regarding student needs and instructional practices.
- Work collaboratively with the Lower School Division Head, learning support personnel, specialists, and other teachers to provide appropriate support for individual students.
- Participate in professional development and continually seek ways to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
- Support the mission, Episcopal identity, and values of All Saints Episcopal School.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School or Head of School.

- Use data to drive instruction and regularly evaluate whether students are making appropriate progress.
- Maintain high expectations while recognizing that students may reach those expectations through different paths.
- Prepare students for First Grade by intentionally developing the academic skills, independence, maturity, and confidence necessary for the next grade level.
