Precision Multi‑Axis CNC Setup Specialist — Aerospace & Defense
If complex setups, tight tolerances, and high-mix work energize you, read on.
Why we’re hiring
- TekPro is partnering with a top-tier precision shop experiencing significant growth from new OEM programs.
- We’re expanding the machining group with setup-strong professionals who excel in a true job shop setting.
- Work ranges from intricate 5‑axis components to large-format 3‑axis parts and close‑tolerance turned features.
Choose your lane (current needs)
- 5‑Axis Setup Machinist
- Independently set up complex multi-surface jobs on advanced 5‑axis VMCs.
- Establish tooling/work offsets, validate programs, make in-machine adjustments, and resolve issues at the spindle.
- 3–4 Axis Mill Setup (Large-Format)
- Lead setups on big-envelope VMCs for large, precise components.
- Engineer fixturing, read detailed prints with GD&T, and hold accuracy over long cycle times.
- CNC Lathe Setup/Operator
- Set up and operate turning centers for aerospace/defense parts.
- Manage tools, workholding, offsets, first-article verification, and continuous, data-driven adjustments.
What success looks like
- Run full setups from drawings, programs, setup sheets, and work instructions—no dedicated setup crew needed.
- Handle frequent changeovers with speed and precision.
- Install/indicate fixtures, vises, jaws, and other workholding; load, preset, and qualify tooling.
- Set tool/work coordinates; fine-tune offsets and parameters at the control.
- Interpret complex blueprints and GD&T to drive machining strategy.
- Prove out new work; proactively surface and mitigate tooling, fixturing, dimensional, or process risks.
- Perform first-article and in‑process checks using micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore/height gauges, etc.
- Continuously monitor cuts; optimize feeds/speeds, tooling, and offsets to sustain capability.
- Troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, workholding, and machining problems with minimal oversight.
- Meet aerospace/defense quality requirements and tight tolerance targets consistently.
- Collaborate with programming, quality, ME, and peers to drive process improvement.
What you bring
- Solid record of CNC machining and setup in a precision environment.
- Independent setup capability—start to finish.
- High-mix/job shop background strongly preferred.
- Strong blueprint literacy and GD&T mastery.
- Hands-on skill with precision metrology tools.
- Understanding of cutting tools, workholding, offsets, feeds/speeds, and machining fundamentals.
- Confident troubleshooting and machine-side adjustment skills.
- Background in aerospace, defense, medical, or comparable close‑tolerance work is a plus.
- Openings available for seasoned mid-level through elite setup machinists, depending on equipment experience.
What’s in it for you
- Work that’s technical, varied, and meaningful—never repetitive button-pushing.
- Complex parts, challenging tolerances, and true ownership at the machine.
- Growth powered by major OEM awards means a strong pipeline of interesting jobs.
