Position Overview
An established, hospital-employed primary care practice in Dothan, Alabama, is seeking a Board-eligible or Board-certified Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physician to join its outpatient team. This opportunity is available due to an upcoming physician retirement, with an immediate need to fill the position.
The incoming physician will provide comprehensive primary care in a collaborative practice alongside three other primary care physicians and three nurse practitioners. The practice offers on-site laboratory and radiology services, an established electronic medical record system, and a consistent outpatient schedule.
This position is based at a single clinic location, with no travel required.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive primary care services to adult patients within the physician's scope of practice.
- Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Develop individualized treatment plans and support preventive care and health maintenance.
- Coordinate patient care with other physicians, nurse practitioners, and clinical staff.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation using the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Support clinical quality improvement initiatives and maintain established standards of care.
- Collaborate with practice leadership on clinical protocols, workflow improvements, and operational planning.
- Promote effective communication and continuity of care across the clinical team.
- Participate in practice development, quality assurance, and relevant administrative initiatives.
Work Schedule
- Monday–Thursday: 7:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
- Friday: 7:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
- Shift: Day shift
- Employment: Full-time, 1.0 FTE
- Patient volume: Approximately 18–20 patients per day
- Practice setting: Outpatient primary care
- Work location: One clinic site; no routine travel required
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Eligibility for or possession of an active, unrestricted Alabama medical license.
- Completion of an accredited residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Board certification or board eligibility in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Ability to obtain hospital medical staff privileges and complete the required credentialing process.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care and effective interdisciplinary collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in an outpatient primary care practice.
- Experience managing a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Familiarity with Epic EMR or a comparable electronic health record system.
- Experience participating in quality improvement, clinical protocol development, or practice operations.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary physician and advanced practice provider team.
