Principal Architect, Manufacturing Test Engineering

Echodyne is seeking a Principal Architect, Manufacturing Test Engineering to join our fast-growing team. 

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Principal Architect of the Manufacturing Test processes, you will be responsible for defining the vision, architecture and strategic direction of the manufacturing test infrastructure to support multiple products across their lifecycle.  You will establish scalable, robust, and data-driven test architectures that enable manufacturing operations to deliver high-quality products at volume. As a Principal Architect you will partner closely with R&D, NPI, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Operations, Software, Systems, Hardware, and Supply Chain teams to ensure that test strategies are designed into products and manufacturing processes from early development through production.

The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in manufacturing test engineering, test architecture, automation, hardware/software integration, data systems, and high-volume manufacturing with the ability to influence technical decisions across multiple organizations.   

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Define the architecture and technical roadmap for manufacturing test systems
• Develop scalable test strategies to support a product from the NPI build to full mass production and sustaining phases
• Define the appropriate balance of structural, functional, performance, reliability, environmental, calibration, and inspection test strategies
• Establish common and scalable test frameworks, interfaces, standards, and design patterns for manufacturing tests
• Drive design-for-testability (DFT) and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) requirements into new product development.
• Ensure test architectures support global manufacturing scalability and product variants
• Define manufacturing test processes and methods for new radar technologies
• Serve as the technical authority for complex manufacturing test architecture and system-level decisions
• Lead resolution of difficult technical problems involving hardware, software, instrumentation, fixtures, automation, and manufacturing systems
• Evaluate emerging test technologies and determine their applicability to manufacturing test processes
• Drive integration between test systems and manufacturing execution systems (MES), product lifecycle systems, quality systems, and data platforms.
• Define manufacturing test data architectures that enable traceability, analytics, and continuous improvement.
• Enable data-driven analysis of first-pass yield, test escapes, false failures, cycle time, downtime, and process capability to drive continuous improvement projects
• Partner with Product Engineering and NPI teams from early product development through production release
• Identify testability risks early and develop mitigation strategies
• Provide technical direction during prototype, EVT/DVT/PVT, pilot, and production ramp phases
• Drive standardization while allowing appropriate flexibility for site-specific manufacturing requirements
• Establish appropriate controls for test equipment calibration, measurement integrity, software configuration, and data traceability
• Support root-cause analysis of manufacturing defects and customer escapes
• Ensure test systems are designed for maintainability, repeatability, and long-term production support
• Influence engineering and business leaders without direct organizational authority
• Facilitate test architecture reviews and drive alignment across Hardware, Software, Firmware, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Operations, and NPI
• Write technical documentation to meet the Quality requirements and create a solid knowledge base
• Mentor senior and principal-level engineers and develop technical talent across the organization

REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

• Ph.D, M.S., B.S, C.S, or equivalent Engineering degree in a technical field
• 15+ or more years of experience in electronics manufacturing and test
• Proven technical leadership driving manufacturing test projects from design to deployment
• Proven experience designing and developing manufacturing test HW and SW solutions for different product integration levels
• Experience designing manufacturing test strategies end to end from component and board level tests to full system level testing
• Strong experience with test instrumentation, data acquisition, measurement systems, and production test equipment
• Strong technical knowledge of test techniques and methods
• Previous experience defining testability and manufacturability requirements of electronic products
• Strong communication skills

DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE 
(Looking for one or more as a complement to the core skills) 

• In-depth knowledge of RF circuits and Radars
• General project management skills
• Linux/Unix experience
• Previous experience with manufacturing processes of radars
• Knowledge of statistical process control, measurement system analysis, and Design of Experiments
• Experience with machine vision, robotics, automated inspection, or AI/ML-based manufacturing test.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO/IEC 17025, or other applicable quality and calibration standards, depending on industry
• Experience with cloud-based manufacturing data architecture
