    Job Description

Every day, hundreds of Amazon teams across Retail, Prime, Prime Video, Music, Alexa, and more reach customers through email, push, SMS, and messaging apps. Outbound Communications runs that marketplace, at the scale of hundreds of millions of customers and billions of messages, through everyday sending and Amazon"s largest events: Prime Day, Prime Big Deal Days, and the holidays. Each message competes for finite customer attention. The marketplace grows when every message earns more of it: more customers open, click, and buy, and fewer opt out.

We"re looking for a Principal Product Manager - Technical to lead growth for this marketplace. You"ll own click-through rate, conversion, and incremental sales per message across channels, and the technical products that move them: personalization and recommendations in messages, send-time and channel optimization, new creative and interactive experiences, conversational and messaging channels, and the experimentation engine that tells us what works.

You"ll work backwards from the customer. You"ll find where messages fail to earn engagement, form hypotheses, and run a high-velocity experimentation program with engineering and science. You"ll ship the winners as platform capabilities that every sending team can use, not one-off campaign tweaks. You"ll measure growth honestly, on clicks, conversions, incremental OPS, and long-term customer value, not opens, and you"ll balance short-term lift against opt-outs and customer trust.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Own the growth strategy, roadmap, and goals for Outbound"s customer attention marketplace: CTR, conversion, incremental OPS per message, and engagement across email, push, SMS, and messaging channels.
    • Build and run a high-velocity experimentation program. Set the hypothesis backlog, prioritize by expected impact, and make A/B and multi-armed testing fast, trustworthy, and self-service for every sending team.
    • Own the technical products that drive engagement: personalization and recommendations inside messages, send-time and channel selection, content and creative optimization, and interactive and conversational experiences that let customers act without leaving the message.
    • Partner with science and engineering to bring ML and AI into who receives what, when, and on which channel, including ranking, propensity and uplift models, bandits, and generative content, and measure their incrementality against holdouts.
    • Define the growth funnel and its instrumentation end to end, from delivered to opened, clicked, converted, and retained. Make the data reconcilable, real-time where it matters, and attributable to the module, content, and decision that drove it.
    • Grow the addressable audience: opt-in and permission growth for new channels, reactivation of lapsed customers, and deliverability and reach improvements.
    • Turn winning experiments into platform capabilities. Write PR/FAQs and requirements, make build-vs-buy and architecture trade-offs with engineering leaders, and drive adoption across partner teams.
    • Set growth tenets and guardrails, such as opt-out, complaint, and frequency limits, so growth never comes at the cost of customer trust.
    • Influence senior leaders across Retail, Prime, and partner businesses with data and written narratives, and report growth results and learnings in the Outbound business reviews.
    • Raise the bar for growth and experimentation practice across Outbound, and mentor product managers.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
