Principal Product Manager - Technical, AWS Security

    Job Description

At Amazon Web Services (AWS), Security is our highest priority. We are building a set of AI-native security products that change how AWS prevents, finds, and responds to security risk. One product evaluates code as builders write it and fixes issues automatically. Another finds and remediates vulnerabilities across the AWS fleet, from host and container operating systems to third-party software. A third automates investigation and triage for security operations teams.

We are looking for a Principal Product Manager - Technical to own the product strategy across this suite. The products solve the same basic problem at different points in the security lifecycle: work out what is affected, judge how serious it is, and act on it. Nobody owns the product decisions that cut across them today. You will decide which capabilities should be shared and which should stay product-specific, what each product promises its customers, and where to build new, extend what exists, or retire overlap.

Your customers are technical. Software builders want security that doesn"t slow them down. Security engineers need coverage they can trust. Security operations teams need investigation and response that scales. You will represent all three, decide which need wins when they conflict, and drive the engineering, science, and program teams to deliver the right products. The strategy that ties the suite together has not been defined yet, and you will be trusted to define it with complete independence.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Define a multi-year vision and long-term roadmap for a suite of security products, and drive teams to deliver it
    • Decide where products converge on shared capabilities and where they stay separate; make the invent, extend, or retire calls
    • Serve as the voice of the customer for software builders, security engineers, and security operations teams, grounded in customer research and data
    • Write PR/FAQs, decision narratives, and investment proposals that make the case for the suite"s direction to senior leadership
    • Build the measurement, intake, and reporting mechanisms that keep each product aligned with its customers over the long term
    • Partner with technical program managers who own multi-team delivery, and with engineering and science leaders on architecture and priorities
    • Take point on customer-impacting product issues and executive-level escalations
    • Mentor product managers and contribute to hiring and promotion assessments

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
