    Position Summary

    The Principal VMware Systems Support role provides ongoing Systems Administration support, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, applications, and connectivity components for VMware environments across multiple locations. This role provides technical support and advises on the use of storage, database systems, and networks.

    Operational responsibilities include remediation of daily incident tickets, system compliance, system run enhancement, testing, staging, policy/procedure enhancement, client contact coordination, and operational recommendations to address availability and reliability issues on VMware systems, while playing a lead role in shaping VMware systems strategy across the company.

    Core Responsibilities

    Leadership & Strategy

    • Plays a lead role in Systems Administration across the company, building on responsibilities such as:
    • “May serve as team lead, allocating work assignments, ensuring work-load balance across the team and providing technical and procedural guidance for less experienced team members.”
    • Ensures alignment of systems design and strategy with corporate business requirements and objectives.

    Business & Systems Alignment

    • Applies extensive knowledge of the business and user community in systems design, development, and support.
    • Translates long-term business requirements into systems and infrastructure design.

    Infrastructure & Technical Advisory

    • Provides infrastructure leadership for hardware and software systems support.
    • Advises and consults company-wide on the resolution of unique, complex, or business critical issues.

    Project Responsibilities

    • Assesses and documents current-state VMware solution architectures.
    • Designs and recommends high-availability VMware solutions, including Server clustering and VMware-based infrastructure, aligned with business and technical requirements.
    • Develops migration strategies, implementation roadmaps, and associated bills of materials for VMware  environments.
    • Ensures proposed VMware solutions can be effectively integrated into the Operations support practice.
    • Collaborates with account teams to gather operational knowledge and support transition planning.

    Disaster Recovery Responsibilities

    • Participates in design reviews to validate that VMware solutions can meet recovery objectives.
    • Reviews and maintains DR documentation, runbooks, and supporting artifacts for VMware systems.
    • Supports coordination and execution of planned DR testing activities.
    • Monitors and evaluates VMware DR infrastructure capacity across on-premises and cloud environments.

    You will be successful in this role if you have:

    Education

    • Required: BA/BS degree and 8+ years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Preferred: Master's degree.

    Experience

    • Expert-level expertise in VMware systems administration and enterprise infrastructure design.
    • Proven ability to lead technical teams and advise across the organization on complex, business-critical issues.
    • Experience with Microsoft Server, including clustering.
    • Experience with Linux Servers, including clustering
    • Familiarity with disaster recovery and high availability in cloud environments — Oracle OCI and Microsoft Azure.

    Certifications

    • VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
    • ITIL Foundation or higher

    Competencies

    • System & Technology Integration (Advanced)
    • VMware Computing (Advanced)
    • Infrastructure Design (Advanced)
