Process Engineer

A leading plastics manufacturer in the Wilmington, Delaware area is looking for a Process Engineer to join the technical staff. This role works directly on the manufacturing floor to establish robust processing parameters, optimize cycle times, and support continuous improvement across high-precision production lines.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and optimize processing parameters to ensure peak production efficiency, part quality, and minimal scrap.

• Perform root-cause troubleshooting for daily processing challenges, working side-by-side with maintenance technicians and floor operators.

• Conduct process capability studies, scientific processing trials, and DOE (Design of Experiments) to support new mold launches and engineering changes.

• Collaborate with quality and operations teams to implement Lean manufacturing principles, 5S practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Assist in establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and processing guidelines for floor personnel.

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Recent graduates with strong academic or co-op/internship backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

• Practical exposure to plastics experience, including injection molding, thermoforming, blow molding, or extrusion.

• Solid understanding of scientific processing concepts, polymer materials, and tooling principles.

• Strong mechanical aptitude with a preference for working hands-on in a plant environment.

• Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-based setting.
