Position Overview

We are seeking a Product Development Research Investigator to join the Research & Development team in Midland, MI. In this role, you will conduct scientific research and development to support new product innovation, improve existing products, and optimize manufacturing processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional business and manufacturing teams to develop technologies that enhance product performance and meet customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct theoretical and experimental research to develop new products, improve existing products, and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Design, execute, and analyze complex experiments involving formulation and processing technologies.
  • Prepare technical reports, research summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses.
  • Investigate and develop new scientific concepts and technologies with meaningful business impact.
  • Document research findings that support patent disclosures, technical publications, and scientific advancements.
  • Collaborate with business and manufacturing teams to define process technology strategies and research programs.
  • Lead or contribute to multiple R&D projects focused on technology development and customer solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership within larger research and development initiatives.
  • Identify innovative approaches by applying proven technologies and methods from related fields.
  • Independently solve complex technical problems and recommend effective solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across products and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related scientific discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with formulation development, filled polymer systems, and processing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of formulation and manufacturing process development.
  • Experience designing, executing, and interpreting complex laboratory experiments.
  • Knowledge of products and technologies across an industrial or manufacturing business segment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a cross-functional team.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience leading technical projects or research initiatives is preferred.
