Product Owner 5 – Technical Product Owner
Location: Chicago, IL
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, typically 2–3 days onsite per week
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1st shift
Contract: 12 months
Pay:$92+/hour with upward flexibility based on experience

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Owner with a strong software development background to support enterprise digital products and platforms. This is a hands-on Product Owner position for someone who can work comfortably with engineering teams, understand software architecture, and translate business needs into technical features and stories.
The ideal candidate is a former Java developer who transitioned into Product Ownership and has hands-on experience with AWS, RESTful APIs, Agile software development, and enterprise application architecture.
Responsibilities
- Own and prioritize the product backlog, features, stories, and release priorities
- Run Scrum ceremonies and support day-to-day Agile delivery
- Partner with technical leads to create detailed user stories and acceptance criteria
- Negotiate technical dependencies and delivery priorities across partner teams
- Work directly with Java/Scala development teams, architects, QA, and business stakeholders
- Understand and contribute to conversations around application architecture and technical design decisions
- Manage software enhancements, change requests, defects, and production issues
- Support RESTful API and system integration initiatives
- Coordinate UAT, defect resolution, release readiness, and implementation activities
- Translate business requirements into actionable technical requirements
- Communicate technical risks, dependencies, priorities, and delivery status to stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant software engineering, product ownership, or related experience
- 3+ years of Lead Product Owner experience
- 6+ years of leadership experience in a technical or product capacity
- Previous hands-on software development experience, strongly preferred in Java
- Experience building and working with RESTful APIs
- Hands-on experience working in an AWS environment
- Strong understanding of software architecture, integrations, and microservices
- Product backlog, roadmap, requirements, and user story management experience
- Strong Agile/Scrum experience
- Experience working directly with software developers and technical architects
- Strong business analysis, critical thinking, and stakeholder communication skills
- Must be local to the Chicago area and comfortable working onsite
