Job Summary

ABC News is looking for a Production Associate to support the Assignment Desk in our New York Bureau. This role provides editorial, production, and logistical support to producers, correspondents, and newsroom teams covering daily news and breaking stories across platforms.

This is an overnight position, and candidates must be available to work overnight shifts.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, adaptable, and passionate about current events and journalism. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to impactful storytelling while developing a broad understanding of operations in a 24/7 newsroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Support producers and correspondents with assignment logistics, including travel bookings, scheduling, credentialing, and administrative coordination.
• Assist with live-shot production for broadcasts, including Good Morning America and World News Tonight, and coordinate live and recorded segments.
• Receive and monitor video feeds, news wires, and social platforms to track developing stories, flagging significant updates for editorial teams.
• Coordinate information across ABC News platforms, News Services clients, and owned and affiliated stations through Microsoft Teams, phone, and email.
• Research and pitch stories, gather information, and organize production materials to support accurate and timely coverage.
• Assist with clearing user-generated social media content.
• Log, transcribe, edit, and process video content for distribution across ABC News platforms.
• Support operational readiness as coverage priorities shift, performing additional production and newsgathering duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience in a newsroom or news-related environment.
• Genuine interest in current events, journalism, and news production.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with close attention to detail.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work effectively under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, email, and common business and communication tools, with the ability to learn newsroom systems.
• Availability to work the required overnight schedule, with flexibility for evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as coverage demands.

• Strong news judgment and curiosity about local, national, and international events.
• Ability to remain calm and focused during breaking news.
• Collaborative approach and willingness to support teams across functions.
• Initiative, accountability, and strong problem-solving skills.

Required Education

• BA or BS from an accredited four-year college or university, or equivalent professional experience.

PAY TRANSPARENCY

he hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $57,400 to $77,000 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
