Production Manager, Gearbox Manufacturing, Chicago

A well-established and growing metal manufacturing company specializing in large and small gearboxes is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead daily manufacturing operations. This position will oversee production teams, drive efficiency, and ensure quality and delivery goals are consistently met.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily production operations in a gear and precision machining environment.
• Supervise, train, and develop production employees and front-line leaders.
• Coordinate workflow, manpower, equipment, and production schedules to meet customer deadlines.
• Monitor productivity, quality, scrap, downtime, and on-time delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, throughput, and cost.
• Partner with engineering, quality, maintenance, machining, assembly, and scheduling teams.
• Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with company safety and quality standards.
• Maintain a visible, hands-on presence on the production floor.

Qualifications

• Previous production leadership experience in a metal manufacturing, machining, gearbox, gear, or heavy industrial environment is required.
• Strong understanding of machining and manufacturing processes.
• Experience managing production schedules, workflow, and employees.
• Knowledge of CNC machining, turning, milling, gear manufacturing, or gearbox assembly is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to improve productivity, quality, and operational performance.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience is a plus.

Compensation

$110,000–$130,000, depending on experience. Relocation support may be provided.
