Davis Machine- Production Planner

Position Overview

The Production Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring all production activities to ensure efficient workflow throughout the machine shop. This role requires strong manufacturing knowledge, experience with CNC machining operations, and a solid understanding of aerospace component production. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of maintaining accurate schedules that support on-time delivery and production efficiency.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop, maintain, and adjust daily and weekly production schedules to meet customer deadlines and internal capacity requirements.
  • Coordinate with machine operators, programmers, quality control, and leadership to ensure all jobs are properly prioritized.
  • Monitor work orders, material availability, machine capacity, and labor resources to prevent delays or bottlenecks.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, job travelers, and engineering specifications for accurate scheduling.
  • Track progress on active jobs, identify potential issues, and communicate updates to management and relevant departments.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and timely updates in the scheduling and manufacturing systems.
  • Collaborate with procurement to verify material status, including aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and Inconel components.
  • Optimize workflow across CNC lathes and other machining centers by understanding machine capability and run time estimates.
  • Support continuous improvement activities related to production flow, scheduling accuracy, and shop efficiency.
  • Maintain a strong focus on quality, safety, and compliance with aerospace manufacturing standards.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in production planning, machine shop coordination, or manufacturing operations (aerospace preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of CNC lathe machining processes and machine capability.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing small fittings and precision aerospace components made from aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and Inconel.
  • Solid understanding of workflow in a job-shop or high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, routings, and production documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience using scheduling software, ERP/MRP systems, or similar production management tools.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on site Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Preferred Skills
  • Experience in aerospace machining or AS9100 environment.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Strong analytical and time-management abilities.
