Production Supervisor 2nd shift

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated 2nd Shift Production Supervisor to oversee daily manufacturing operations at a food production facility. This individual will lead production employees, ensure food safety and quality standards are met, monitor production schedules, and promote a safe, efficient, and productive work environment.

The ideal candidate has previous supervisory experience in food manufacturing, strong leadership skills, and a solid understanding of food safety, quality control, sanitation, and production processes. This role is responsible for ensuring that production goals are achieved while maintaining compliance with company policies and applicable food safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily production activities on second shift to meet production schedules, quality standards, and operational goals.
• Lead, train, coach, and develop production employees to promote accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Monitor production line performance, employee productivity, equipment utilization, and product output to ensure operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP programs, and company quality standards.
• Enforce proper sanitation, cleaning, allergen control, and housekeeping procedures throughout the production area.
• Conduct routine production floor inspections to identify safety hazards, quality concerns, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Work closely with Quality Assurance (QA), Maintenance, Warehouse, and other departments to resolve production issues and minimize downtime.
• Monitor product quality, ingredient usage, batch accuracy, labeling, packaging, and finished product specifications.
• Ensure production documentation, batch records, quality checks, downtime reports, and shift production reports are completed accurately.
• Investigate production delays, equipment malfunctions, material shortages, and quality deviations; implement corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure employees follow company safety policies, proper equipment operating procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
• Monitor employee attendance, scheduling, performance, and adherence to established work procedures.
• Communicate shift updates, production results, staffing concerns, and outstanding issues to management and incoming shifts.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, improving efficiency, controlling costs, and increasing productivity.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and traceability of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods.
• Assist with internal audits, customer inspections, regulatory inspections, and food safety investigations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in food science, manufacturing, operations, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing environment; food manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of food safety standards, GMPs, HACCP, sanitation procedures, and quality control practices.
• Experience supervising production employees and managing daily manufacturing schedules.
• Ability to read and interpret production schedules, work instructions, quality documentation, and standard operating procedures.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to identify production inefficiencies and implement effective corrective actions.
• Basic computer skills, including production reporting, data entry, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work the second-shift schedule and provide occasional overtime support as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with FDA food safety requirements and preventive controls.
• Familiarity with SQF, BRCGS, or other recognized food safety and quality management systems.
• Experience with batch processing, food packaging, automated production lines, or high-volume food manufacturing.
• Knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience with production KPIs, including labor efficiency, yield, scrap, downtime, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Work Schedule

• Shift: Second Shift (typically afternoon/evening hours)
• Employment Type: Full-Time
• Schedule: Monday through Friday or as determined by production requirements
• Overtime, weekends, or extended hours may be required based on operational needs.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work primarily on the manufacturing production floor in a food processing or packaging environment.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to work around operating machinery, varying temperatures, and food production equipment.
• Ability to wear required PPE and comply with sanitation and hygiene requirements.
• Ability to lift, carry, or move materials as required by the facility, with or without reasonable accommodation.
