Job Summary

The Program Instructor II plays a vital role in promoting physical activity, social interaction, and overall wellbeing for teenagers. The ideal candidate enjoys working with teenagers, ages 11-18, and is comfortable transporting them to and from various offsite locations, leading lunchtime tabling at middle schools and high schools in the area, and facilitating recreation activities alongside other staff.

Job Summary

• Provide after school transportation for teenagers from two local middle schools to the Kirkland Teen Union Building.
• Transports teenagers to offsite excursions and facilitate recreation programs and activities that foster personal growth, leadership skills, and self-esteem among teenagers.
• Assist with outreach and engagement in community spaces, events, and schools
• Provide mentorship and support for teenagers as they develop life skills and social abilities
• Supervise Program Instructor I's and Recreation Attendants as needed.
• Maintain reliable and punctual attendance.
• Represent the City in a positive and professional manner with program participants.
• Follow/adhere to all city policies and procedures, and safety program regulations and requirements.

Hours of Work

This role is expected to begin on Monday, August 31, 2026. Programs are planned six months in advance, and subject to change based on facility/program needs. Additional opportunities for hours may come up but are not guaranteed. The ideal candidate is available at all times for the following hours:

• Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 1:45PM-2:45PM
• Once a month on Saturdays, between the hours of 9:00AM-5:00PM
• Quarterly lunchtime tabling 10:30AM-1:30PM

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age, or older
• Must have at least 3 years of driving experience
• 1 year of experience working with and mentoring youth
• 1 year of experience in customer service
• OR, in place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

Preferred Qualifications

• Must have at least 5 years of driving experience and willing to get certified to drive a 14-passenger minibus (training will be provided upon hire)
• 2 years of experience working with and mentoring youth ages 11-18
• 2 years of experience in a customer service role
• 1 year of experience in a supervisory role

Licenses and Other Requirements

• Must possess a valid Washington State drivers license
• Must possess or obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 6 months of hire
• Must successfully pass all phases of the pre-employment hiring process, including but not limited to reference checks and a national criminal background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act.
• The background check must include a Motor Vehicle Report (also called a Driving Abstract).

• Performs work in indoor and outdoor settings
• Extended periods of time sitting, standing, and/or walking
• Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible
• This job requires driving for periods of 30-90 minutes at a time.
• This job requires frequent lifting and carrying (15-20 lbs.) and infrequent heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs.
