Project Controls Specialist

Location: Kansas City, MO
Job Type: Long-Term Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking a Project Controls Specialist for a long-term contract opportunity with our client in Kansas City, MO. This role will lead daily project controls activities and support program execution through scheduling, cost management, forecasting, reporting, and data analysis.

The Staff Program Controls Specialist plays a key role in maintaining program performance by ensuring consistency, accuracy, and quality across project controls processes while supporting both internal teams and external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily management and execution of project controls tasks across assigned programs.
  • Provide input to the Program Controls Plan in collaboration with the Program Controls Manager.
  • Support training, mentoring, and technical guidance for internal and external stakeholders on project controls processes and technologies.
  • Develop and execute project controls quality and consistency plans.
  • Interface directly with clients and participate in program meetings.
  • Create recurring and ad hoc statistical and performance reports for program teams and leadership.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of program reporting data warehouse systems.
  • Produce client-facing program controls reports and analytics.
  • Assist clients with configuring program functions within planning and controls software.
  • Support program management through:
    • Critical path scheduling
    • Estimating and forecasting
    • Project cost management
    • Document control
    • Performance reporting
  • Perform quality reviews and implementation of program execution manuals.
  • Support Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting reviews.
  • Prepare and present cost management and forecast reports to stakeholders.
  • Develop and present program cash flow reports.
  • Analyze data, review logs, and generate reports within planning & controls systems.
  • Create and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
  • Develop multi-level schedules, apply logic ties, and conduct schedule what-if analyses to identify risks.
  • Monitor resource loading and validate progress measurement and progress curves.
  • Conduct field audits to verify reporting accuracy and adherence to processes.
  • Support risk management activities by identifying and mitigating potential project risks.
  • Participate in Interactive Program Planning Meetings (IPPM).
  • Analyze forecasted costs against schedule performance and critical milestones.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for project controls inquiries.
  • Assist senior controls personnel with updates to internal financial systems.
  • Communicate impacts of program changes on financial performance.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned while complying with company policies and standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field and 3+ years of direct project controls experience
    OR
  • Equivalent applicable experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience with Oracle Primavera P6 preferred
  • Strong understanding of scheduling, cost control, and forecasting methodologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification (or ability to obtain)

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting large programs or multi-project environments
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • Experience with program reporting systems or data warehouses
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets and present actionable insights
