About us:

One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we’re on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We’re looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What you'll do:

Viasat is seeking a Project Engineer (PE) to build integrated solutions for edge-to-cloud connectivity in austere locations. You will epitomize technical excellence by digesting new technology quickly, advising on roadmaps, and leading interdisciplinary teams to solve complex customer challenges. The ideal candidate is a "Swiss Army Knife" engineer—an expert in systems design and networking who is equally comfortable in a high-level proposal meeting as they are performing hands-on hardware troubleshooting in the lab.

The day-to-day:

As a Project Engineer, you will build integrated solutions for edge-to-cloud connectivity in austere locations. You will epitomize technical excellence by digesting new technology quickly, advising on roadmaps, and leading interdisciplinary teams to solve complex customer challenges. In this role you will:

  • Design, develop and test complex networking products while serving as the primary technical resource for interdisciplinary teams and management
  • Champion requirements decomposition and integration for platforms like FSO and NetAgility, ensuring the "big picture" is maintained throughout the product lifecycle
  • Lead root cause analysis for hardware and software defects, log collection, cable ring-outs, continuity testing, short analysis, soldering and cable termination
  • Lead program/event planning dependencies, specifically for customer demos, ensuring thorough preparation to reduce execution risk
  • Perform technical design and code reviews while mentoring junior engineers to further team development
What you'll need:

  • 5+ years' hands-on experience with complex system verification
  • 2+ years' experience engaging with complex systems that include Hardware/Software integration and a strong knowledge of hardware/software interfaces
  • Proven understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, trunking, Ethernet protocols, and OSI layers
  • Proficiency with tools like iperf and Viavi TBERD
  • Validated experience with C, C#, and Python
  • Proficiency in Linux command line with skills to use modern development tools for automation
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • US Government position. US Citizenship required
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain when administratively feasible
  • Ability to travel up to 20% both domestically and internationally
What will help you on the job:
  • Active DoD Secret clearance
  • Master's degree in computer engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • A "no job too small" attitude and the ability to remain flexible in ambiguous environments.
  • The proactive mindset to see potential problems before they manifest
Salary range: $95,000.00 - $149,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $117,500.00- $176,500.00/ annually  : At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
