Project Engineer – Construction (Land Development & Restoration)

About the Job 

Bancroft Construction Services (BCS) provides construction management, environmental compliance, and restoration services for public and private infrastructure projects throughout Southern California. Our team works closely with engineers, environmental professionals, contractors, and regulatory agencies to deliver high-quality projects that meet technical, environmental, and regulatory requirements. 

We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of environmental construction projects from pre-construction through completion. This role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in dynamic construction environments, works effectively with both project and field teams, and understands the importance of meeting design, regulatory, safety, and client requirements. The Project Engineer will collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, and environmental professionals to support safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible project delivery.

This is a hybrid position that combines office-based work with regular field presence and travel to active project sites throughout the Southern California region. 

Duties & Responsibilities 

• Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction and environmental restoration projects.
• Review project designs, specifications, and drawings to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and project requirements.
• Support field operations by providing technical guidance, tracking progress, and addressing design or environmental challenges.
• Prepare and maintain project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, permits, and compliance reports.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies to maintain alignment on project goals.
• Track budgets, schedules, and materials to support timely and cost-effective project delivery.
• Participate in project meetings and provide updates on technical and environmental aspects.

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in construction, environmental restoration, or related engineering roles (internship/co-op experience may be considered).
• Experience with Environmental Compliance (SWPPP / Stormwater, Biological and Cultural Monitoring)
• Knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance requirements (CEQA/NEPA, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act preferred).
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in construction management software, MS Office Suite, and CAD (preferred).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in field and office environments.

Work Environment 

• This is a hybrid position involving both office-based work and field activities
• Approximately 50% travel to active construction and restoration project sites throughout Southern California 

• Working around heavy equipment and active construction operations 

• Exposure to outdoor conditions and uneven terrain 

• Driving between multiple project sites on a regular basis 

• Candidates must be able to safely perform site visits and field coordination duties. 

Compensation & Employment Status 

• Salary: $70,000 - 90,000

• Employment Type: Full-Time / Hybrid 

• Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience
