Project Manager – Commercial Construction
Atlanta area
Some Project Manager roles are mostly paperwork, meeting notes, and reporting problems after they happen. This is not one of them.
This position is for a commercial construction professional who wants real ownership of their projects, direct access to company leadership, and the authority to make decisions that keep work moving. You’ll manage projects from preconstruction through closeout, partner closely with experienced field teams, and build lasting relationships with clients and trade partners.
The company is a respected general contractor with a strong regional presence, diverse project experience, and a steady pipeline of commercial work. Projects may include ground-up construction, additions, renovations, tenant improvements, industrial facilities, institutional buildings, hospitality, multifamily, and adaptive-reuse developments.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Manage commercial construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout
- Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, forecasts, and procurement plans
- Coordinate subcontractor bidding, scope review, buyout, contract execution, and performance
- Work closely with project superintendents to align field operations with budget, schedule, quality, and client expectations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors
- Lead project meetings and maintain clear communication among all project stakeholders
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, purchase orders, and project documentation
- Track long-lead materials and resolve procurement or scheduling concerns before they affect the project
- Identify potential risks early and develop practical solutions
- Maintain accurate cost projections and provide regular updates to company leadership
- Support constructability reviews, value engineering, design coordination, and preconstruction planning
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably, and according to the company’s quality standards
- Help develop Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers assigned to your projects
- Build strong client relationships that lead to repeat business
What We’re Looking For
- At least 5 years of commercial construction project management experience
- Experience managing ground-up construction, additions, renovations, or tenant improvement projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, budgets, scheduling, procurement, and subcontractor management
- Ability to manage projects independently while collaborating effectively with field and office teams
- Strong communication, organization, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities
- Experience leading owner, architect, and contractor meetings
- Ability to anticipate challenges rather than simply react to them
- Proficiency with construction project management, scheduling, and document-control software
- Willingness to visit project sites and travel periodically based on project requirements
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- Meaningful ownership of projects from beginning to end
- Strong backlog of diverse commercial construction work
- Direct communication with company leadership
- Collaborative partnership between project management and field operations
- Opportunity to work with long-standing clients and established trade partners
- Support for continued professional development and career advancement
- Competitive compensation, performance-based incentives, and comprehensive benefits
The right person for this role is not looking to disappear into a large corporate structure. They want to be trusted, stay close to the work, develop strong teams, and see the direct impact of the projects they lead.
